Made with Spirit

A personal connection.

Our jewelry collection is inspired by the cosmos and represents the very personal connection we each have to the universe. The collection is hand crafted in Bali by Komang, made of 925 sterling silver and then plated in 18k gold in Switzerland. We are over the moon with the reception and your love for the collection since we launched it in Spring and we want to share more behind the scenes details with you of what makes sun + her jewelry possible.

Jewelry is personal, and our collection starts with a very personal connection with our Maker and Silversmith Komang. We’ve sat down with him to discover what he loves most about his work, how is family is integrated in it all, and which sun + her jewelry piece is his favorite piece to create.

1. When and how did you start making jewelry? Please tell us a little bit more about your story of becoming a Silversmith.

I come from a simple family and I have 7 siblings. So after graduating from junior high school, I followed in my brother's footsteps and started studying to work as a Silversmith. At first I studied at my brother's work place, then I tried to find another place to work in the Denpasar area. In early 2020 I left my previous company and started working independently from home.

2. We know that your family is part of your business and that you work in your home studio. Can you tell us more about your family?

I have 2 children. My son's name is Pande Wayan Devanartha and he’s in 3rd grade. My youngest child, my daughter, is named Ni Made Divya Nanda Zanitha. She’s not in school yet but she likes to imitate her brother in studying.

3. Are your children curious about the jewelry and what you create?

Yes, my kids are always curious about what I do. They sometimes like to ask me what to do, for whom, how to make it, what's the difficulty, is there anything they can help with, and they hope that when they grow up they can work like me.

4. What are your hobbies? What do you love to do in your free time when you're not making beautiful jewelry?

My hobbies are fishing and exercising. If there is free time and my son is not at school, I will go fishing with him.

5. What do you love most about the process of making jewelry as a Silversmith? Why do you love making jewelry?

What I like most about doing jewelry is when I can translate ideas from customers. Which originally from ideas and images to become a physical form of jewelry. I love seeing customers smile when I manage to create jewelry that was previously only in the customer's mind.

“I love seeing customers smile when I manage to create jewelry that was previously only in the customer's mind.”

6. What is the most complicated part about your work?

The part that is quite complicated in my work, when there are designs that use small gems and contain a lot of them.

7. What does it mean to you to work with Paulina and her brand sun + her?

I am delighted to be working with Paulina and her brand. I'm also happy because I can get new experiences with making sun+her jewelry, because every customer usually has different tastes. I'm always looking forward to new jewelry ideas from Paulina and I hope Paulina and I can continue working together.

8. Do you have a favorite piece of jewelry that you enjoy most from the sun + her collection?

Yes, I have some favorite jewelry from sun+her including the Lunaria Pendant and Kundalini snake inspired designs coming soon……

9. What are your daily rituals? And why are they important to you?

I wake up drinking coffee while thinking about what to do in the workshop. By enjoying a cup of coffee, I can get new ideas and can also add enthusiasm to carry out my daily activities.

10. How to you honor your Balinese culture?

I respect my culture by continuing to carry out the tradition of making offerings on holy days according to our beliefs. Like, Galungan, Nyepi and many more. As well as running Tri Hita Karana. That is to maintain the relationship between man and God, humans and other humans and also the relationship between humans and the universe.
